Our Story.
Lake City Photos was a pipe dream turned reality. I’m still in awe of being where we are today!
For 17 years, I photographed families and weddings. It never really felt like my career. It always seemed like something I stumbled into, not something I envisioned or intentionally created for the long haul.
In 2022, Josh and I were married at sunrise on an Oahu beach. Our blended family of six kids is our world. With everyone living with us full-time, our home is always beautifully chaotic.
At that time, I knew I needed to shift to headshots and content photography so I could work daytime hours. But that meant diving into the corporate world—somewhere I’d never been before.
Lake City Photos truly came to life at a career networking event I attended with Josh at the Silicon Slopes office in Lehi. I brought my camera along, hoping to offer free headshots to job seekers. But, being a rule follower, I wasn’t sure who to ask for permission to take pictures there.
About 10 minutes in, I met Sean McKeehan, one of the coolest guys I know now. I shared my story, and within moments, Sean had a Silicon Slopes employee setting up a whiteboard in the foyer announcing free headshots.
After that day, I made my first real LinkedIn post about the experience, and that’s when the magic started happening. Lake City Photos was created.
In our new office space, Josh and I brainstormed our vision for Lake City Photos on a whiteboard. To be honest, it still felt like a distant dream.
It wasn’t until recently that I realized we’ve done it—we’ve built a business, and I’ve finally found my career. We’ve also accomplished most of what we wrote on the whiteboard that day.
Lake City Photos is named for our connections to growing up by lakes. I grew up on Lake Erie in Ohio, and Josh is from here. I met Josh after facing some tough times in life: losing my dad to cancer when I was a young teenager, navigating a traumatic blended family situation, and dealing with betrayal. All of this led me to Josh at the most perfect time.
Josh has a way of encouraging me to reconnect with my roots, or as we call it, “Baby Dani.” It’s really about rediscovering who I am at my core, and that’s where the personal branding part of Lake City Photos comes in.
My emphasis is helping others have the same experience I’ve had. I used to feel chaotic and directionless, but with intentional business decisions and personal branding, I’m proud to say it works. I’ve built a brand I’m beyond proud of. And I’m rediscovering myself more and more every day while doing it.
